Will Jamie Vardy Stay at Leicester City?

Written by Stephen Wood at The Sports Quotient

If you’re wondering who’s the heartbeat of Leicester City’s miracle, top-of-the-table squad, look no further than last weekend’s game against Manchester United. After setting the record for most consecutive Premier League games with a goal scored, Jamie Vardy screamed the answer at his adoring fans with all the eloquence we’ve come to expect of him: “It’s me! It’s me! It’s f***ing me!”

Since that historic goal, interest in Vardy, Vardy, f***ing Vardy! has increased exponentially. The former Stocksbridge Park Steels man has led Leicester City to heights few believed possible at the start of the season. Whether you measure it by number of goals scored or by swagger, Vardy has become the best striker in the Premier League.

Naturally, people are now asking how much Leicester City want for him.

Leicester has set a £30 million price tag for Vardy, presumably to douse rumors that they are going to sell him in the winter transfer window. But after his cool finish with the eyes of the world on him last weekend, more and more commentators believe there might be a club out there that finds that price reasonable.

That’s less than Manchester United paid for Anthony Martial and less than Liverpool paid for Christian Benteke this offseason, and rumors now swirl around those two clubs. Underperforming Man U may need someone to fill the gap between Wayne Rooney’s reign as the club’s dominant striker and that of Martial, his heir apparent. Likewise, Liverpool has had success with Christian Benteke up top, but injuries to him, Danny Ings, and, repeatedly, Daniel Sturridge have left the Reds with questions at striker.

It’s very important to remember, however, that Martial is 19 and Benteke is 25, while Vardy is 28. Who is desperate enough that they would shell out that much money for a 28 year old?
