Tom Herman has been named the next head coach of the University of Texas football team. Herman will be replacing Charlie Strong, whose three years in Austin were less than stellar, but he succeeded in producing young men filled with integrity. At Strong’s final press conference, his team showed up and gave the coach a standing ovation. Likewise, teary-eyed player spoke with the media to explain the effect Coach Strong had on them on and off the field.
Herman takes over this Longhorn team after spending two years as the head coach at the University of Houston. In those two years, Herman has had a 22-4 record and beaten six ranked opponents, including Oklahoma and Louisville this season. Herman, who coached with the Longhorns under former head coach Mack Brown, was courted by both LSU and Texas before inking a deal to go to Austin.

At his opening press conference, Herman promised to bring championships back to the historical football powerhouse, saying, “The University of Texas is a place, a special place, that deservedly holds a seat among college football elite. We will win championships. We will build men of character. We will graduate our players, and we will do it all with integrity and with class.” Todd Orlando, Houston’s defensive coordinator, has been promoted to interim head coach and will coach the team in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 17th, against the San Diego State Aztecs.
