Tom Coughlin Reportedly Met With Bills Owner This Week.

Tom Coughlin is known for setting his clocks ahead, for being five minutes early to everything.

Now, the former Super Bowl-winning Giants coach is having to deny a version of Tom Coughlin Time was in effect during a reported meeting with Buffalo Bills ownership — which would have been a bit premature considering former New York counterpart Rex Ryan remains tenuously employed as the team’s head coach.

According to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, Coughlin recently met with Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula, though the report added the caveat — “not sure if it was a consult or a job interview.”

Coughlin’s agent, Sandy Montag, used oddly stilted language to deny the meeting. “I do confirm that a meeting did not occur,” Montag told Pro Football Talk via email.

The NFL, for which Coughlin currently works as the senior advisor to football operations, was more succinct. “This meeting did not happen,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT.
Ryan, in his second season in Buffalo after six seasons at the helm of the Jets, does not have a lot of job security, by any account. He was pushed to fire offensive coordinator Greg Roman after Week 2, though he recovered to lead the Bills to a convincing win over the Cardinals in Week 3. Up next, a visit to face the Patriots in Foxborough, a traditional house of horrors for the blustery Ryan. The Bills did not expressly deny it, declining comment due to a “longstanding practice not to respond to media posts based on rumors.”
