The NFL Failed to Administer Proper Domestic Violence Investigation Pertaining to Josh Brown

London — The Giants are here. Josh Brown is not.

That’s because a domestic violence scandal that broke in the summer, but petered out as fall arrived, has once again engulfed the team, and the NFL, after explosive new information emerged Wednesday night.

NJ Advance Media first reported police documents that included purported written admissions of domestic violence toward his wofe by Brown, the Giants’ embattled kicker, about two months after he was suspended one game by the NFL and his May 2015 domestic violence arrest, and the significant and disturbing allegations made by his wife, first came to light.

The Giants had no knowledge of the documents before they were reported. But they did apparently have knowledge of a previously-unknown incident involving Brown and his wife at the Pro Bowl in January that required NFL intervention.

Brown practiced Thursday, but the Giants capped a chaotic day by announcing Brown will be inactive for Sunday’s game and will not travel. However, the Giants claim they have not made a decision on Brown’s status with the team, and then co-owner John Mara stunningly told WFAN’s Mike Francesa that Brown admitted to him he beat his wife.

The NFL has reopened its investigation into Brown. And the Giants and NFL are getting ripped by everyone from Steve Smith to Annie Apple to Francesa.

Gould, 34, was cut by Bears before season.

How did this story get to this point? Below is a full timeline, spanning from the spring to the present and detailing how the Brown debacle has unfolded, step-by-step.

APRIL 18

The Giants re-sign Brown, who is coming off a Pro Bowl season, but is also a 37-year-old free agent, to a two-year deal.

AUGUST 17

The NFL announces Brown has been suspended one game for an unspecified violation of the league’s personal conduct policy. Hours later, NJ Advance Media exclusively reports Brown was arrested in May of 2015 in Woodinville, Wash., on a single fourth-degree domestic violence charge.

AUGUST 18

Brown speaks to reporters, confirming the incident that led to his arrest involved his wife. Brown infamously says it was “just a moment,” while head coach Ben McAdoo walks back the declaration of zero tolerance for domestic violence he made in a January interview after being hired.

Hours later, police documents emerge containing allegations made by Brown’s wife that Brown was physically violent with her on 20-plus occasions during their marriage.
