The 5 MLB Teams With the Most Left to Do This Offseason

Written by Joe Messineo at No Coast Bias

As we near the end of the year, a lot of Major League Baseball fans can say that they got lots of great stuff from their holiday wish list. Chicago Cubs fans got a shiny new outfielder, a solid pitcher, and the game’s most coveted super utility man. Red Sox fans got the ace that they think can take them over the top, as well as an elite closer. Happy holidays, indeed.

But for fans of some other teams, a lot remains to be done. Some of the most intriguing offseason work remains to be done. These are the teams to watch.

Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles are reportedly interested in bringing in a big-name free agent. That could be someone new, like OF Justin Upton, or someone more familiar, like 1B Chris Davis. The Orioles’ sole major free agent signing, RP Darren O’Day, is reportedly trying to help lure Davis back to Camden Yards. If the Orioles don’t get Davis, they’ll look to sign a big bat elsewhere. Baltimore’s front office isn’t saying that the team needs to make any more major moves, but teams almost never admit that. In reality, the Orioles have no shot in an improving AL East unless they make another significant move.

Kansas City Royals

The World Champions still have a lot left to do if they’re going to repeat. Number one on that list is re-signing Alex Gordon, the face of their franchise. Gordon returning to Kansas City makes a ton of sense, but the two sides have a serious gap to bridge. The Royals are reportedly trying to ink Gordon for a deal with an average annual value of around $13 million. That’s madness – Gordon’s value on the open market is probably somewhere around $20 million per season.
