Raiders pursuing Marshawn Lynch

In what could be the most surprising move of the early league, the Oakland Raiders are considering acquiring retired running back Marshawn Lynch, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Josina Anderson.

Lynch retired with the Seahawks following the 2015 season. In order to acquire Lynch, the Seahawks would need to release him or work out a trade. Nicknamed “Beast Mode,” Lynch finished his nine-year NFL career with 9,112 yards and 74 touchdowns, playing for the Seahawks and the Bills.

Lynch is popular among Seahawks fans, and stood as a leader as the Seahawks transformed from a mediocre team to a Super Bowl champion and two-time NFC champion during his tenure. One of the best backs of his era, he’s known for his remarkable running strength, which might be best displayed on this run against the Saints in the NFC wild-card playoffs after the 2009 season.

Lynch, an Oakland area product, is considering returning to the game, according to Schefter and Anderson. He only played seven games in his final season, rushing 111 times for 417 yards.

The Seahawks signed veteran running back Eddie Lacy in free agency, and have been in talks with Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles, strongly suggesting they’d be willing to deal Lynch, should he wish to return to the field.
