Patriots vs Ravens Preview

It’s been nearly two seasons since the New England Patriots faced off against the Baltimore Ravens.

Their last encounter is a memory near and dear to the hearts of the Foxboro faithful, while it’s a nightmare for the fans in purple.

The 2014 AFC Divisional round was the most recent clash between these two and boy was it was a doozie. In that game the Patriots had to claw back from two multiple touchdown leads at various points in the game.

Joe Flacco and the Ravens came out of the gate firing going up by two scores for most of the opening quarter. New England evened it up, but 10 seconds before halftime Baltimore scored again to go up by seven.

They would find the end zone one more time out of the break, but that’s when the tides turned for the Patriots. Julian Edelman caught a pass from Tom Brady in the third quarter and then the wide receiver converted one of the more memorable plays in New England Patriots history.

He threw it.

The 51-yard touchdown bomb to Danny Amendola changed the fortunes of the Pats as they went on to score another touchdown to go up by the final 35-31 to advance and eventually go on to win Super Bowl XLIX.

That games was New England’s most difficult throughout the AFC playoffs later destroying the Indianapolis Colts in the Conference Championship game, 45-7.

The Patriots-Ravens rivalry may be the most underrated in the NFL as each time they take the field with one another it more often than not turns into an instant classic.

Next Monday night should be more of the same between these two bitter rivals.
