New York Giants Sign Brandon Marshall

The New York Giants and veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall reportedly reached an agreement Wednesday on a two-year, $12 million contract.

Kimberley A. Martin of Newsday was the first to report details of the deal, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the agreement.

Marshall requested his release from the New York Jets in early March, per Martin, amid widespread changes to the roster, including the exit of several notable names. Nick Mangold, Darrelle Revis, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Nick Folk were among those who left the organization.

The New York front office obliged. Eric Allen of the Jets’ official website passed along comments from team owner Woody Johnson, who praised the playmaker on his way out.

“Brandon’s commitment and passion for football is undeniable,” Johnson said. “His drive to support mental health awareness is beyond admirable. We appreciate his contributions to the organization and wish him the best.”

Meanwhile, Marshall posted a message on Instagram about the decision, which centered around his desire to chase a title. He previously stated he wanted the Jets to become his final stop.

“I’m sorry we couldn’t bring you a championship, but I wish you and my former organization the very best in your pursuit for one in the future,” he wrote of Jets fans. “I’m looking forward to finding a great organization where I can contribute and bring home a championship. I know I have a lot left to give, and [wife Michi Marshall] and I will truly miss the Jets, but we are excited for what lies ahead.”

Marshall enjoyed an outstanding first season with the Jets in 2015. He racked up 109 catches for 1,502 yards and 14 touchdowns, earning his sixth trip to the Pro Bowl.
