The NBA has informed all teams returning to play at Walt Disney World that coronavirus testing will begin June 23 and take place every other day, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.
The memo sent to teams was obtained by ESPN and noted that all essential team staff working directly with the players or traveling to Orlando will be subject to coronavirus testing and an initial antibody test later this month.
All teams currently are scheduled to arrive at Disney World between July 7-9, and the memo did not state which kind of testing the league will use or what will happen if someone tests positive. However, it is said to be a less invasive nasal swab for testing.
Games are expected to kick off toward the end of July at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, but there’s been significant pushback from players thanks to Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving.
Players have begun training, in a limited capacity, at their team facilities over the past week and will continue to do so until they have to travel to Orlando for the remainder of the season.
