We may still see Johnny Manziel make a comeback, just not necessarily how we expected. The former Texas A&M sensation still wants a job in the NFL, but if he’s not wanted he’d like to coach college football.
Here’s what Manziel said while interviewed by Clay Travis at the International Football Betting Conference in Costa Rica on Monday, via ESPN:
“I’d do something involved with sports. I can’t get away from it,” he said. “I’ve had to ask myself that a little bit as of late over the past year, but at the same time I’d want to be involved in sports in some way, whether it’s coaching, whether it’s doing something like that. So I think that’d be my route.”
Asked which level he’d like to coach at, Manziel said: “Probably college.”
Although Manziel wants to coach on a college campus, in the same interview he said he hates nothing more than the NCAA. Awkward.
Manziel also admitted he’d have trouble coaching a college player like himself:
“I was really hard-headed. I look back right now and think about how big of a kid I was. And a lot of regrets that I have, especially with my second year in college, not treating it kind of the way I did my first year.”
As recently as July, reports have revealed NFL teams still see potential in a Johnny Football comeback. He’s still only 24 years old. But he played in only 14 games during his failed stint with the Browns, and only a couple showed any signs of NFL potential. However, Manziel is adamant that he’s changed his lifestyle and even volunteered to take drug tests to help his comeback attempt.
