The Browns go through quarterbacks like a toddler goes through diapers. Cleveland has a history of running quarterbacks out of town, but 2016 is exceptionally bad, particularly when it comes to guys getting injured.
Wideout Terrelle Pryor and offensive lineman Joe Thomas are tired of it.
Asked about Cody Kessler suffering a concussion, Pryor called out the offensive line for not protecting the quarterbacks, and also called out management for not providing protection.
“This is bullcrap. We can’t keep doing this and we can’t keep getting our guys hit. It’s as simple as that,” Pryor said in the locker room after the game, via Cleveland.com.
Asked what the team can do about it, he pointed to the front office.
“I don’t know. You’d have to talk to our management. It’s a question for them,” Pryor said. “We can’t keep getting these guys hit. I’m tired of our guys getting hit. I’m nobody to complain because I don’t run it, but it’s personal to me because I care for those guys. And I don’t like seeing those guys get hit.
“Somebody’s got to say it.”
The Browns have seen Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, Kessler, Charlie Whitehurst and Kevin Hogan all take snaps at quarterback this year. The only guy to play quarterback for the Browns that hasn’t gotten hurt is Pryor himself.
Pryor wasn’t the only one noting there’s an issue with the offensive line. Thomas, via The Chronicle Telegram, pointed out how the front office allowed Mitchell Schwartz and Alex Mack walk in the offseason and how it’s affected the line.
“You’ve got to lie in the bed that you’ve made,” Thomas said. “We lost a couple really good players, I think the best at their position. But that was our strategy in the offseason. That’s what we decided to do.
“The guys that are making the personnel decisions, they’re the experts on that, so they’re the ones that have to make those decisions and look at those decisions when they’re made.”
