Freakshow: The Rematch

While Bellator may lack a certain amount of star power, the promotion occasionally makes up for it by rewarding fans with an always enjoyable freakshow fight.

Take the June 19th romp between Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock as an example. Despite both men being well past their primes, the main event garnered 2.1 million views, a record-breaker for the still young promotion.

To potentially reap a similar reward, Bellator inked Bobby Lashley and James Thompson on the Bellator 145 card tomorrow night.

The pair, who weigh a combined 501 pounds, have long been heralded as two of the most impressive physical specimens in the heavyweight division.

Lashley, a former professional wrestler and collegiate wrestling champion, has impressed since his 2008 transition into MMA, putting together a 13-2 record while currently riding a six-fight win-streak.

While Thompson may not have the winning percentage Lashley possesses, he did award Lashley his most recent loss, defeating “The Dominator” by unanimous decision at SFL 3 in May of 2012. A true veteran of the sport, Thompson has won twenty of his thirty-six professional fights, with notable victories over Don Frye, Dan Severn and Bob Sapp.

While it’s relatively unlikely that either combatant will ever find themselves in the upper echelon of the heavyweight division, this fight has “fun” written all over it, plain and simple.
