Flyers Make It 9 Games In A Row In Their Current Win Streak

Rookie goalie Anthony Stolarz, who started the Flyers’ eight-game winning streak in his NHL debut last month, will try to extend the victory string when the Flyers play in Detroit on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Steve Mason will get a rest after starting 13 of the previous 14 games.

“It’s a good day for Mase to have a day off, and also Stolie did a good job in his first start and he’s done a great job in practice,” coach Dave Hakstol said before the game. “As we go through this busy stretch, this is a game we looked at, depending on circumstances, to get Stolie to start.”

Stolarz allowed a pair of shorthanded goals but was solid in his debut, a 5-3 win over Calgary on Nov. 27. He made 29 saves in that victory.
The Flyers (17-10-3) are trying to increase their winning streak to nine, which would equal their longest since 1995.

Jimmy Howard, who is 5-5 but has a 1.75 GAA and .942 save percentage, will start for the Red Wings (13-12-3).

Ghost questionable. Shayne Gostisbehere is questionable for the game because of an injury suffered in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Dallas. GM Ron Hextall said the hand was still sore.

Look for Michael Del Zotto to replace Gostisbehere.

Hakstol claimed he didn’t use Gostisbehere on late power plays Saturday because the Flyers “had trouble getting up ice on the previous power play” and it was a good time to use Mark Streit.

He said Gostisbehere’s injury had nothing to do with his decision.

Injury updates. Goalie Michal Neuvirth and center Sean Couturier did not make the trip. Both are recovering from knee injuries and probably won’t return to the lineup until after Christmas, Hextall said.
