Details are beginning to emerge about Draymond Green’s early Sunday arrest in East Lansing.
The arrest stemmed from an incident in downtown East Lansing and resulted in no injuries, according to East Lansing city attorney Thomas Yeadon. The maximum penalty Green could face if found guilty of the assault charge is a $500 fine and/or 90 days in jail.
Yeadon told MLive that police were not called to the scene but were instead already on the scene where the incident occurred.
“This is fairly common for a college town,” Yeadon said.
Online documents released Monday afternoon confirm Green was arrested for assault on Sunday morning.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Green slapped a taunting fan, citing a source.
Green’s was arrested at 2:28 a.m. on July 10.
According to a court document from East Lansing’s 54B District Court, the arrest occurred at 2:28 a.m. Sunday. Green was released on a $200 bond that same day and is scheduled to be arraigned by July 20.
“I will tell you, Draymond is completely innocent — ‘completely’ should be capitalized,” James Heos, Green’s attorney, told the San Jose Mercury News before declining further comment.
Green was at Conrad’s Grill early Sunday morning, the owner and general manager of the downtown East Lansing restaurant said. But they didn’t think Green was arrested there, which conflicts with an ESPN report.
“No one saw what happened,” general manager Chris Sonie said. “He came in and ordered food and took off.”
Green has been a customer at Conrad’s since college, according to owner Joe Conrad.
Green, a fourth-year forward with the Warriors, did not immediately return a call and message for comment on Monday morning.
A statement released by the Warriors Monday read: “We are aware of news involving Draymond Green in Michigan over the weekend. At this point, we are collecting information and will have no further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation.”
