Can The Cowboys Keep This Hot Streak Up?

Ezekiel Elliott

The Dallas Cowboys’ best drive against the Cleveland Browns might have been one where they did not score a point.

Taking over with 7:48 to play, the Cowboys never gave the ball back to the Browns. Alfred Morris carried nine times for 29 yards. Lucky Whitehead had one carry for 2 yards. Mark Sanchez completed his only pass for 8 yards.

The game ended with Sanchez taking a knee twice, which is one less play than what the Browns ran all quarter.

“We always talk about winning the fourth quarter and we were up by 25 going into the fourth quarter and we had the ball for 13:07 and that was a good thing for our team,” coach Jason Garrett said. “The defense got a three-and-out and then offensively, I think we ran it 18 out of the last 23 plays in the game. When you’re able to do that and make first downs and chew clock up, that’s a really positive thing for your team.”

That drive showed the Cowboys’ dominance. Earlier they showed their efficiency, efficiency they have had the entire season.

The Cowboys scored touchdowns on five of their first seven possessions, and it was that few only because of a technicality. They ended the first half by taking a knee.

It certainly felt like an offensive performance from 2014.

“I don’t know that you look at it and say, ‘That was 2014,'” tight end Jason Witten said. “I just felt like that was us. That felt just like who we are. When you play your style and you see yourself having success, it gives everybody a lot of confidence.”

Since 2015 ended, the Cowboys showed they wanted to turn the clock back to 2014 by drafting Ezekiel Elliott with the fourth overall pick.

Through eight games in 2014, the Cowboys were 6-2, averaging 26.6 points and 400.6 yards per game. They were picking up 160.5 yards per game on the ground, 240.1 through the air. They were holding the ball for 32 minutes, 52 seconds per game.
