Baylor Loses To WVU, Drops From Top Spot.

Written by Gary Parrish At CBSSports.com

I was a big fan of, and campaigner for, Baylor’s 15-0 start that featured six top-50 KenPom wins — among them victories over Oregon, Louisville and Xavier. But the Bears’ perfect record disappeared Tuesday via an 89-68 loss at West Virginia. So the Top 25 (and one) must adjust accordingly.

Baylor is no longer No. 1.

The Bears are now eighth in the Top 25 (and one). And Villanova is again No. 1 again thanks to a resume featuring six top-50 KenPom wins — including Tuesday’s blowout of Xavier — and a lone loss that came at Butler by single-digits. In my opinion, at this moment, that’s the nation’s best resume. For the purposes of comparison, know that UCLA and Kansas only have four top-50 KenPom wins each. Kentucky has just two. Gonzaga has three.

Here is the latest Top 25 (and one).

1

Villanova

The Wildcats’ resume features six top-50 KenPom wins and zero sub-15 losses. They own victories over Creighton, Purdue, Notre Dame and Xavier. 1 16-1
2

UCLA

Lonzo Ball finished with 21 points, eight assists and six rebounds in Sunday’s win over Stanford. The Bruins’ only loss is a last-second loss at Oregon. 1 16-1
3

Kansas

Frank Mason finished with 28 points and five assists in Tuesday’s win at Oklahoma. Kansas has won 15 straight games since its season-opening loss to Indiana. 1 15-1
4

Kentucky

The Wildcats have won four straight games since losing at Louisville. They’re one of only three teams with a top-10 offensive and defensive efficiency rating. 1 14-2
5

Gonzaga

Nigel Williams-Goss finished with 36 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in Thursday’s win at San Francisco. The Zags are now 33-4 vs. USF under Mark Few. 2 15-0
6

Florida State

Tuesday’s blowout of Duke was FSU’s sixth top-50 KenPom victory. The Seminoles’ lone loss is an 89-86 loss to Temple in November. 2 16-1
7

West Virginia

The Mountaineers forced Baylor into 29 turnovers during Tuesday’s blowout of the Bears. West Virginia’s two losses have come by a combined five points. 2 14-2
8

9

Butler

Kamar Baldwin averaged 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in Butler’s past two wins over Villanova and Georgetown. The Bulldogs will take a three-game winning streak into Wednesday’s game at Creighton. 1 14-2
