Eagles Pick up Former Giant, Rueben Randle

Written By Paul Schwartz at New York Post.

He did not rise to the occasion and he was allowed to become an unrestricted free agent, with the Giants showing no interest in bringing back their 2012 second-round pick. Randle will get a chance to show the Giants they were wrong to give up on him. On Wednesday, he signed a one-year deal to play for the Eagles, staying in the NFC East.

The fact the deal is for just $1.025 million, plus incentives, shows the regard the rest of the NFL had for Randle.

He is just 24 and has not missed a game in his four-year career. In 2014, he started 13 games and had career highs in receptions (71) and receiving yards (938). Last season, he slumped to 57 catches for 797 yards, but he did haul in a career-high eight touchdown passes. Randle was a classic tease as a player, showing enough talent and potential to keep him on the field, but not enough production to live up to his high draft status and physical gifts. It was not enough for the Giants to show any desire to re-sign him, even though they are fairly desperate for a legitimate No. 2 receiver to team with Beckham.

Victor Cruz took a pay cut of $5.5 million to remain on the roster, and the Giants hope he can regain his form — or at least a semblance of his form — after missing all of last season with a left calf injury that required surgery and the final 10 games in 2014 with a torn right patella tendon.
