God Does Not Hate Your Team – Hope For The Downtrodden Franchises

It’s happened for years. And seems to happen every year (sometimes for decades). The lovably laughable patsies, the doormats of pro sports, the trend of fanatical sports fans who year-after-year cheer on their Indians, Cavs (sorry Cleveland), Chargers, Eagles, Lions, Kings and less we forget those adorable Cubs fans.

Big sad eyes walking the dark streets of America, legions of them, coast-to-coast, season after season, watching great eager crowds, fans of some other team gather together in a small country bars, big city high rises, screaming “Yes-ooroni we won, we won…Again!”

Doesn’t it get tiresome? The conversation withering into…well, maybe next year…or the year after that. ‘Maybe, we’ll have the coach, manager, superstar, cohesion…we should draft that guy…we should trade for that guy. It could happen…in my lifetime.’

There is hope!

Reasons I have choreographed for you below. Saneness for the downtrodden, sullen sports fan of the franchises that seem to get throttled every season by the bullies of sports (Yes YOU Patriots)…the franchises who have a good season only to wither away in melted disappointment by a bad stroke of luck (See Steve Bartman).

There is an example that will one day see Great Chicago glow red, white and blue in October instead of only the 4th of July.

My position…the catalyst for suggesting that Cleveland Indian fans can stop living vicariously through replays of Charlie Sheen the “Wild Thing” on decrepit VHS players kept alive by duct tape and spit? This is assuming that you’re not run over by a silent Prius driven by a just as championship starved Tigers fan before you can celebrate.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it happened this year. The Golden State Warriors are your reason. They are the hope of a nation of sullen, loyal losers everywhere. A populous of a sports mad region who never stopped loving their team even as Bay Area basketball nonsensically fell behind its football and baseball brethren.

The seeds were born with the wizardry of Curry, the Aussie beatdowns by Bogut. Every year there was hope. Then it all came together this year…2015…40 years later, like coffee and a hangover. Years of frustration, the feeling like God hates the Warriors, “We Believe” slogans all wiped away in an instant.

Yes my friends, there is the gratitude, the patience of being fanatical and the butt of sports jokes. But, there is reason and there is hope that the underprivileged, the superstitious, the prayers will be answered.

Just keep an eye out for those Prius drivers!
