Rashaad Penny had ‘more than just a normal’ ACL tear

Rashaad Penny’s season is over, and there may be some doubt about his availability for the start of next season as well.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that the 23-year-old running back had “more than just a normal” ACL tear and surgery and is looking at an extensive recovery, per Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune.

The development is a significant one, as it may signal a long-term need in the backfield with a potential impact on Seattle’s strategy heading into the draft in April and even their chances of re-signing fan favorite Marshawn Lynch.

As for Penny, who went down in Week 14 after rushing for 370 yards and three touchdowns in 2019, perhaps his improved diet can aid his recovery.
