NFL may Suspend Talib for Vicious Facemask Penalty

Aqib Talib’s facemask penalty in the Super Bowl 50 didn’t cost the Broncos much in terms of yardage, but it may cost Talib playing time.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Broncos corner may face a suspension from the NFL due to the flag he incurred when he grabbed onto Carolina receiver Corey Brown’s facemask and twisted him to the ground.

In the second quarter, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton completed a pass to Brown, who was violently hauled down at the five-yard line by Talib. The personal foul penalty only added 2.5 yards onto the gain since it was a half-the-distance-to-the-goal foul, and afterward Talib couldn’t have been less concerned.

It was actually Talib’s second personal-foul penalty of the game. Earlier in the contest, he and Brown got into a confrontation near the Broncos sideline that gave the Panthers 15 yards a first down.

“It was B.S. flags,” Talib told reporters after the game. €”One was on our sidelines [for taunting] –-€” the guy was talking on our sideline. One I just did on purpose, and I just had to show him. It’€™s probably going to be a fine. But, hey, we’€™re world champs.”

Talib added: “My teammates knew what it was. He was on the three-yard line. [With] a personal foul, he was on the one-and-a-half-yard line, so it is what it is.”
