Maryland’s Melo Trimble Headlines Preseason All-Big Ten Selections

Maryland nearly took the Big Ten men’s basketball regular season title in its first try. The Terps’ second go-round could lead to that title happening, and a big reason for it is star sophomore guard Melo Trimble.

He headlines a group of four players unanimously selected to the 2015-16 preseason all-Big Ten team, being named the 2015-16 preseason Big Ten player of the year.

Trimble along with Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine, Purdue’s A.J. Hammons and Wisconsin’s Nigel Hayes were the four players named as unanimous preseason all-Big Ten selections.

Last season, Trimble averaged 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He also shot 44.4 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc.

He was joined by teammate Jake Layman on the list of honorees, while the Terps were joined by two other teams with multiple players — Indiana and Wisconsin.

The Hoosiers had James Blackmon Jr. and Yogi Ferrell on the list, while the Badgers had Nigel Hayes and Bronson Koenig honored.

Here is the full list of players honored with preseason all-Big Ten picks:
