The Steep Fall of Anthony Bennett

A little over two years ago Anthony Bennett was the first overall pick during the 2013 NBA Draft and had high expectations to live up to. He and Kyrie Irving were supposed to be the next young stars of the Cleveland Cavaliers and help lead them back to relevancy in the NBA.

Fast forward to present day and Bennett is about to be on his third team in three years. It was reported yesterday that the Minnesota Timberwolves have reached a buyout agreement with the former No.1 overall pick.

First off Anthony Bennett’s career was doomed from the start. He had no business being the number one pick. Him being selected number one overall put so much more pressure on his shoulders then he needed, especially since the team who picked him was the laughing stock of the NBA ever since that LeBron fellow took his talents to South Beach. Every Cleveland Cavaliers fan, including myself, was hoping Bennett would live up to being a first overall pick and he was the exact opposite. He showed up overweight and out of shape, he was out of sync every time he touched the floor and flat out didn’t look like he belonged in the NBA. Sure there were sometimes where he showed a little promise but his negative plays outweighed his positive plays by infinity.
