Over 15 years ago, Jeremy Horn stepped into the cage at UFC 19. The organization and sport were only in their infancies, as was the career of the man who stood across the cage from Horn. Chuck Liddell was only 2-0 in his short career, but there seemed to be a low buzzing about the potential he held. All of that buzz dwindled away as the future face of the UFC was choked unconscious by the man they call “Gumby” at the end of the first round.
Almost 100 fights later, and long after Liddell’s and most of his contemporaries’ careers have come to an end, Horn fights on. Many people wonder what’s in it for someone like Horn. How could someone who has seen everything the business has to offer stay interested after all of this time? What is there left to do?
Undoubtedly these questions have come up after his most recent bout, a headlining title fight against Bellator veteran Egidijus Valavicius. The fight saw Horn come up lame after less than a minute of fighting.
